We started on August 21, 2005 with one specific purpose and that was to bring the real message of Alcoholics Anonymous back to our Fellowship. This was to learn what was in the Big Book.
Over the years some of us had been around a few years and had witnessed a dire reality. We witnessed our sober success rate slip from a Program of "Rarely have we seen a person fail who has thoroughly followed our Path" (pg 58) to seldom do we see a person recover from a seemingly hopeless state of mind and body as our fellowship became a social-orientated focus than a service-based program. It appears our AA groups were on a down-sizing mission or become another failed AA group. We were concerned and confused as other outside issues were brought in to our meetings and the promises were no longer ringing true for many of us.
Fortunately for us, we met up with "The Big Book Travellers" - Charlie and Joe (Arkansaus, USA) when they visited Glasgow and we got the spark which ignited our interest in the Big Book. This was in October 1992 and then we met with the Dallas Primary Purpose group, who inspired and encouraged us "Into Action". We are sponsored by the DPPG and we are part of a growing trend of AA groups, seeking sobriety through the experience and knowledge of the original First One Hundred AA members.
Before we set up, it had been clear to us and to many of those around us at that time we were unhappy and not experiencing true serenity in our sobriety. Happily, our efforts to change that have shown it can be done and we can be joined in brotherly harmony as we study and share on the Basic Text; while maintaining our own self-preservation as individual AA members through a AA group setting.
To reiterate, we had seen a dramatic downturn in reference to our Recovery Program and less real AA being heard in AA in general. We had seen some of AA friends lose their way because they were being encouraged to have a Spiritual Awakening as a result of meetings, not the Steps in the Big Book. It wasn't working, folks. So we decided to do something about it through this AA group: Carry the Message to the alcoholic who still suffers in and outside of our AA group!
We are a traditional meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous. We do everything that a conventional AA Homegroup does, including a being an active member of the local Intergroup. We work out the solution through the Program of Recovery as prescribed in the Big Book. As an AA Group, we simply wish to helpful to those who geniunely seek recovery and also to offer a safe place to grow along Spiritual Lines.
We recover by the steps we take, not solely by the meetings we make
