Women Suffer Too!

" My name is Mary, I am a female alcoholic. I am so grateful for this group for helping me get sober.

In the beginning, I was niave and confused so when I came to this group I was not too sure what to expect.  I was fortunate that the men in the group took me seriously and explained to me what was available at this meeting: sobriety and nothing else!

I had been drinking for many years and ended up in a psychiaritc ward in 2005. I had lost my way completely before finding this "wee group" at the time (it is now a bigger group with over thirty group members). I just love being here on a Sunday morning. I enjoy the buzz and the banter. It sets me up for the week ahead and I have made many sober friends since coming to this group"

Fortunately, I was given the right information and the right encouragement for coming back again.   I remember getting a celebrations card which helped me enormously so much so I joined the group that day!"

I grew into the Big Book through a sponsor and since my life has turned around from being unemployable to full-time employment in a job I simply adore. I have also been involved in the service of the group and many other women have joined me as group members. I am just glad I got the right support from the start because I hear how some women get lost and confused by what's on offer in AA.  I love being sober and I am eternally grateful to the group and AA as a whole. This is definitely a women friendly AA group and one I am very proud to belong".

Women for Women Sponsorship Program

We have several women at this group willing to sponsor women. We like to continue this program and develop it so that this meeting will be a safe and healthy place for women to support each other in recovery.  We have over ten (10) female members who would like to work with women to keep their primary purpose.  If you are a female alcoholic, seeking a female sponsor, then you are welcome to visit our meeting. We will be only too glad to help you out!   Come on girls, let's make it happen and help your fellow women get the best chance of real recovery like so many of the women in our Big Book.

BBBS Personal Conduct Matters Statement

We value all our visitors and we have a special guideline for women, especially the lone female coming to us for her recovery.  We are here for you. We, as an AA Group, will make every effort to keep this AA meeting a positive and healthy expereience for you - away from any unhealthy distractions or interference by any person.  This group has PCM monitors in place to guide and safeguard you at this meeting. This also includes being the victim of gossip or hearsay.  Should ANY person - especially our female visitors - have any concern about any unwelcome attitude or behaviour  please speak to Rosemary, Annie or Derek B. onsite.   Women have every right to be treated with real respect and ought to be encouraged to get recovery within our male-centred Fellowship. We carry a zero policy against any harassment, agression or abuse. We have made this a safe and sober place for real alcoholics to recover from a living death hence this statement.
